J Visa Waivers

A foreign exchange visitor can apply for a visa waiver based on one of five statutory bases:

  1. “No Objection” statement from J visa holder’s home country;
  2. Request from an Interested U.S. Government Agency (IGA Waiver);
  3. Claim of persecution in home country if J visa holder returns;
  4. Claim of exceptional hardship to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse or child if J visa holder return to home country; or,
  5. Request from a designated State Health Agency
